What causes abnormal leucorrhea after menopause?

What causes abnormal leucorrhea after menopause?

Menopause is usually a permanent cessation of menstruation due to the gradual failure of ovarian function. Abnormal vaginal discharge after menopause may be caused by atrophic vaginitis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.

Causes of abnormal vaginal discharge after menopause:

1. Atrophic vaginitis: When women reach menopause, the estrogen level in the body decreases, which will cause the pH value in the vagina to be unbalanced, thereby reducing the defense function. If personal hygiene is not done well at this time, bacteria will invade the vagina, causing local inflammatory changes. The main symptoms are burning sensation in the vulva, increased leucorrhea secretions, purulent and bloody secretions, etc.

2. Cervicitis: After menopause, if the vulva is not properly cleaned and cared for, or if the sex life is not good, bacteria or viruses may enter the body through the vagina, which will repeatedly irritate the cervical mucosa and cause local inflammatory changes. The main clinical symptoms are increased vaginal discharge, odor, pain during sexual intercourse, and soreness in the waist and abdomen.

3. Pelvic inflammatory disease: For postmenopausal women, the decline in estrogen levels will also lead to a decline in the immune function of the reproductive tract, making it unable to resist bacteria and causing pelvic inflammatory disease. Patients usually experience symptoms such as persistent pain in the lower abdomen, increased vaginal discharge, fever, and urinary pain.

Things to note when having abnormal vaginal discharge after menopause:

When abnormal leucorrhea occurs after menopause, you need to go to the hospital for a complete examination in time. After determining the cause, cooperate with the doctor to give correct treatment to reduce other complications.
