Endometriosis is a common and frequently occurring disease among women of childbearing age. It seriously affects women's health and quality of life and may even lead to infertility. Once discovered, it should be treated promptly. What is endometriosis? There is a layer of tissue called endometrium on the inner surface of the female uterine cavity, which has the functions of proliferation, secretion, regeneration and repair. It is equivalent to the land that breeds children. The endometrium of non-pregnant women grows, secretes, and sheds every month, and is discharged from the body through the vagina, which is menstruation. When the active endometrium grows outside the uterine cavity and undergoes periodic proliferation, shedding and bleeding, it is called endometriosis, or endometriosis for short. Endometriosis is a very common gynecological disease, which affects 2%-10% of women of childbearing age from menarche to menopause. Ectopic endometrium can grow anywhere in the body, such as the navel, bladder, kidney, ureter, lung, pleura, breast, and even arms and thighs, but most of them are located in the pelvic organs and peritoneum, and are more common in the ovaries and vaginal rectal septum. Causes of Endometriosis The exact cause of endometriosis is still unknown. However, there are several theories: •Genetic factors: Endometriosis is common in multiple women in a family. • Abnormal menstrual cycle: Women with a 7-day menstrual cycle have a 2-fold increased risk of endometriosis. •Chemicals: Dioxins and industrial chemicals may also contribute to the development of endometriosis. |
