What are other common vaginitis?

Vaginitis, or inflammation of the vagina, is a group of conditions that cause vulvovaginal symptoms such as itching, burning, irritation, and abnormal discharge.

Common types of vaginitis include the following:

1. Bacterial vaginosis: It is caused by a mixed infection of vaginal Gardnerella and some anaerobic bacteria. It can be transmitted through sexual contact and has a higher incidence among people with promiscuous sexual relationships. The clinical manifestations are increased vaginal discharge with a fishy or ammonia odor, vulvar itching or burning discomfort, and severe symptoms may affect urination.

2. Trichomonas vaginitis: caused by Trichomonas, typical symptoms are itching, burning pain and pain in the vaginal opening and vulva, increased leucorrhea, purulent and foamy, and a foul odor.

3. Vulvovaginal candidiasis: commonly known as candidal vaginitis, it is caused by Candida species, and the main symptoms are itching and burning pain of the vulva. The discharge is white and thick and resembles curd or tofu dregs.

4. Atrophic vaginitis: more common in postmenopausal women, characterized by vulvar burning discomfort, itching and increased vaginal discharge. The vaginal discharge is thin and light yellow. In severe cases, the vaginal discharge is purulent and bloody.

There are also vaginitis and vestibular gland inflammation caused by senile vaginitis, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc., which need to be treated according to the cause.
