What causes uterine fibroids? How to treat them?

Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors of the female reproductive organs, which are mainly caused by genetic factors, sex hormone levels, stem cell mutations, etc. They can be treated through general treatment, drug therapy, surgical treatment, etc.

1. Genetic factors: Most patients with uterine fibroids have no conscious symptoms and are usually found through physical examinations. Some patients may experience symptoms such as abnormal menstruation, abdominal masses, increased leucorrhea, and lower abdominal swelling, which are mostly caused by genetic factors. The daughters of patients with uterine fibroids are at a greater risk of the disease. Asymptomatic patients with fibroids generally do not need special treatment and can be examined once every 3 to 6 months.

2. Sex hormone levels: Excessive secretion of estrogen and progesterone can also promote the growth of fibroids. Therefore, the secretion of sex hormones is vigorous during the reproductive age and rarely before puberty. After menopause, the secretion of estrogen and progesterone decreases, and the tumor shrinks and disappears. It can be improved by drugs, such as mifepristone capsules, tranexamic acid tablets, Guizhi Fuling capsules, etc.

3. Stem cell mutation: Uterine fibroids can be caused by a single stem cell mutation and can be treated with surgery such as myomectomy and hysterectomy if necessary.

In addition to the above reasons, failure to give birth or late childbearing, obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome are high-risk factors for uterine fibroids. Patients can also follow the doctor's advice and undergo high-energy focused ultrasound treatment.
