Is cervical hypertrophy cervicitis?

Is cervical hypertrophy cervicitis?

Cervical hypertrophy may be a manifestation of cervicitis, but not all cervical hypertrophy is cervicitis.

Cervical hypertrophy is the increase in volume due to the proliferation of cervical tissue, while cervicitis refers to the inflammatory response of the cervix. If the hypertrophy is caused by inflammatory stimulation, then the hypertrophy is a manifestation of cervicitis. However, if the hypertrophy is not caused by inflammation, it cannot be classified as cervicitis.

There is a view that cervical hypertrophy is a type of cervicitis, which is mainly caused by the stimulation of long-term chronic inflammation, leading to cervical congestion and edema, hyperplasia of cervical glands and stroma, and increase in cervical volume.

Another view is that cervical hypertrophy is not cervicitis. Cervical hypertrophy is a symptom caused by long-term inflammation of the cervix, which causes the cervix to become larger, while cervicitis is a disease.

Generally speaking, cervical hypertrophy usually does not require treatment, but if obvious symptoms occur, such as increased vaginal discharge, abnormal bleeding, etc., it is recommended to seek medical attention in time and follow the doctor's advice for treatment. At the same time, regular cervical cancer screening is required to avoid cervical lesions.
