What does Nabothian cyst mean?

What does Nabothian cyst mean?

A nabothian cyst is a small cyst that develops on a woman's cervix. This cyst is usually harmless and is a benign lesion. In simple terms, it is a small blister on the cervix.

The formation of Nabothian cysts is usually caused by the obstruction of mucus secreted by the cervical glands, which can not be discharged. As a result, it accumulates in the glands and forms a small cyst. Usually, this situation may be related to factors such as cervical inflammation, cervical injury or cervical erosion. When the cervix is inflamed or damaged, the glandular opening of the cervix may be covered by tissue, resulting in poor mucus discharge and accumulation to form a cyst.

Nabothian cysts are generally not large, ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters, with a smooth surface, and some may appear translucent. In most cases, Nabothian cysts have no obvious symptoms, and many women are only discovered during routine gynecological examinations. If the cyst is large or infected, it may cause some discomfort, such as increased vaginal discharge, odor, and lower abdominal discomfort.

Nabothian cysts usually do not require treatment unless they cause symptoms or are accompanied by other lesions. In this case, the doctor may recommend medication or simple surgical procedures such as laser therapy, cryotherapy, etc. If a Nabothian cyst is found during a gynecological examination, do not worry too much and just follow the doctor's advice.
