Is second-degree cervical erosion serious? Does second-degree cervical erosion need treatment?

Many people are shocked when they hear about cervical erosion. Cervical erosion is not a disease, but a normal physiological phenomenon. In 2008, my country abolished the name of "cervical erosion" and replaced it with "cervical columnar epithelial ectopia". So, is the second degree of cervical erosion serious? What are the symptoms? Does it need treatment?

The grading of cervical erosion is based on the size of the erosion area, which can be divided into mild, moderate and severe cervical erosion. An area less than 1/3 is mild, 1/3-2/3 is moderate, and more than 2/3 is severe. However, this is actually the different degrees of columnar epithelial eversion under the influence of estrogen, which are all normal physiological phenomena. However, after the physiological changes, women are relatively more susceptible to some gynecological diseases. For example, cervicitis caused by vaginitis, patients have a lot of yellow, bean curd-like vaginal discharge, accompanied by itching. In this case, only conventional local suppositories are needed for anti-inflammatory and sterilization. However, some infections are relatively serious, such as human papillomavirus (HpV). Infection with this virus may develop into cervical cancer in the future.

Does cervical erosion need treatment?

Asymptomatic cervical erosion does not require treatment. However, if there are symptoms such as increased leucorrhea, yellow color, stickiness and odor, treatment is required. When inflammation irritates the vulva, it will also cause itching. When the eroded surface becomes obviously congested, bright red or easily bleeds, there will be contact bleeding during sexual intercourse and irregular vaginal bleeding.

The specific treatment method needs to be determined according to different hospitals, but in general, acute inflammation can be treated with suppositories, and chronic inflammation can be treated with physical therapy methods such as laser or freezing.

Treatment of cervical erosion

Drug treatment

Drug treatment is mainly suitable for patients with small erosion area and shallow inflammatory infiltration (also suitable for cervical erosion of degree 2). Drugs are mainly used to apply to the erosion. The principle is to destroy the columnar epithelium on the erosion surface, causing it to necrotize and fall off, creating conditions for the new squamous epithelium to cover the surface. Its advantages are high safety and not easy to damage the uterus, but the treatment course is long.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy is the most commonly used treatment for cervical erosion, such as laser, freezing, microwave, etc., which can be used. After one or two treatments, there will be improvement. It is suitable for patients with large erosion areas and deep inflammatory infiltration. Its principle is the same as that of drug treatment. The advantage of physical therapy is that it can protect the uterus well and prevent it from being damaged, but its cost is higher than drug treatment.

Surgery

Surgical treatment is also suitable for patients with cervical erosion of degree 2, because mild cervical erosion can usually be cured by drugs and physical therapy. However, surgery has certain risks and the chance of harming the uterus is also relatively high. Therefore, many female friends will directly choose the first two treatment methods.
