Are most uterine fibroids asymptomatic? What tests should be done before treating uterine fibroids?

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, there are many types of uterine fibroids, among which the Qi stagnation type has a lump in the lower abdomen that can move. So, do most uterine fibroids have no symptoms? What examinations should be done before treating uterine fibroids?

1. Most patients with uterine fibroids have no symptoms and are only occasionally found during pelvic examinations or ultrasound examinations. If there are symptoms, they are closely related to the growth site, speed, degeneration and complications of the fibroids, and the size and number of the fibroids. Patients with multiple subserosal fibroids may have no symptoms, and small submucosal fibroids often cause irregular vaginal bleeding or menorrhagia.

2. Generally, uterine fibroids do not cause pain, but many patients may complain of a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen and back pain. When the pedicle of the subserosal fibroids is twisted or the uterine fibroids undergo red degeneration, acute abdominal pain may occur. It is not uncommon for fibroids to be combined with endometriosis or adenomyosis, which may cause dysmenorrhea.

3. What examinations should be done before treatment of uterine fibroids? The examinations that should be done before treatment of uterine fibroids are as follows:

Diagnostic curettage: Use the uterine cavity probe to detect the size and direction of the uterine cavity, feel the shape of the uterine cavity, and understand whether there is a mass in the uterine cavity and its location. Diagnostic curettage is of great value for patients with abnormal uterine bleeding who usually need to identify endometrial lesions.

Ultrasound examination: It is the most commonly used auxiliary diagnosis method. It can show the enlargement and irregular shape of the uterus, the number, location, size of the fibroids, and whether the fibroids are uniform or liquefied, cystic, etc. Ultrasound examination is not only helpful in diagnosing uterine fibroids, but also helps to identify ovarian tumors or other pelvic masses.

Here I would like to remind everyone that no matter what disease it is, everyone should not give up confidence in defeating the disease. The disease can be defeated with everyone's efforts.
