Is it easy to have miscarriage if the father is over 35 years old?

When it comes to habitual miscarriage, people often only focus on the wife's side and ignore the husband's responsibilities.

Guo Jun, director of the andrology department, pointed out that male factors are an important cause of habitual miscarriage because half of the embryo's genomic material comes from the father, and male factors may include sperm factors, the husband's age factors, chromosomal abnormalities and some confounding factors.

Among sperm factors, sperm quality is extremely important. When a husband has poor-quality semen, it often leads to difficulty in conception for his wife, increased miscarriage rate and the risk of genetic malformations.

The husband's age is also a factor that causes habitual miscarriage, which is related to the decline in sperm quality, especially sperm motility. Studies have shown that when the father is over 35 years old, the chance of miscarriage increases; and when the father is over 50 years old, the chance of fetal death also increases. In addition, air pollution, environmental factors, drugs, tobacco, alcohol and radiation can all affect sperm quality.

Guo Jun reminds men that they must make preparations in advance before their wives become pregnant, rule out any diseases of their own, exercise, and undergo professional andrological examinations when necessary.
