Bartholinitis examination and its hazards

【Inspection and diagnosis】

Bartholinitis is mainly caused by bacterial infection of the Bartholin glands. It is generally not difficult to diagnose based on the medical history, local appearance and digital examination. However, attention should also be paid to whether there are any abnormalities in the urethral opening and paraurethral glands. Due to severe pain, vaginal speculum examination is no longer possible. If it is not necessary, it can be temporarily suspended. Generally, secretions from the Bartholin gland opening, urethral opening and paraurethral glands should be taken for smear examination to check for pathogens. Pus flows out of the fistula.

Bartholinitis is mainly caused by bacterial infection of the Bartholin glands, which in turn causes poor drainage of the gland duct opening. Bartholinitis manifests as pain on one side of the vulva, often accompanied by chills. The lower 1/3 of the labia majora is locally red and tender. If an abscess is formed, an egg-sized lump can be seen, with a sense of fluctuation, which can rupture on its own, and the lymph nodes in the corresponding area are swollen. Since Bartholinitis can cause severe pain in patients, vaginal speculum examination is no longer possible and can be temporarily suspended if not necessary. Generally, secretions should be taken from the Bartholin gland opening, urethral orifice, and paraurethral glands for smear examination to check for pathogens.

【harm】

If the abscess is not treated promptly, it may occasionally spread posteriorly, forming a perirectal abscess, and sometimes even rupture into the rectum.

After the abscess is incised and drained, most of the abscess cavities can be completely closed and healed, but fistulas may occasionally form, with a small amount of secretions constantly discharged. When palpated, a small and hard nodule can be felt, with slight tenderness. When squeezed, pus may sometimes flow out of the fistula. Sometimes the fistula closes or narrows on its own, and pus can accumulate and form an abscess again. It may also recur and not heal for a long time.

Bartholinitis has many harmful effects and may cause many complications. Another characteristic of bartholinitis is that it will recur. Therefore, if you realize that you have bartholinitis, you must go to the hospital for a diagnosis to confirm whether you have bartholinitis, and then take treatment measures as soon as possible. Change your underwear frequently and pay attention to the cleanliness of your genitals.

The above article introduces the examination and harm of Bartholinitis, which is very helpful for us to prevent, discover and treat diseases. I hope my introduction will help you to re-understand Bartholinitis and do a good job of prevention.
