Why is Bartholinitis prone to recurrence?

Why is Bartholinitis prone to recurrence?

Experts point out that the Bartholin's glands are located at the back of the labia majora on both sides, and the gland duct opens on the inner side of the labia minora near the hymen. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical location, pathogens can easily penetrate and cause inflammation when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth or other situations. Many women find that Bartholin's gland inflammation is prone to recurrence. So, what are the reasons for the recurrence of Bartholin's gland inflammation? Gynecological experts analyze as follows:

1. The reason why Bartholin's gland abscess recurs is determined by its anatomical structure. The Bartholin's gland is located in the lower 1/3 of the labia majora, opening between the hymen and the labia minora. Bacteria can easily invade and cause inflammation. After inflammation occurs, the gland duct edema can easily cause obstruction, preventing pus from flowing out and accumulating to form an abscess.

2. After the abscess is formed, it is difficult to subside by itself. Incision and drainage are required to make the inflammation subside quickly and heal. After the abscess is incised and drained, most of the abscess cavities can be completely closed and healed, but some people will form fistulas. When the fistula opening is narrowed or closed, pus accumulates again and abscesses can form again, causing repeated attacks and long-term failure to heal.

3. Some abscesses occur on the basis of existing Bartholin's gland cysts. If the cysts are infected, the abscesses will recur. When treating Bartholin's gland abscesses, the treatment should be based on the actual situation. Usually, when the abscess appears, it is first incised and drained and antibiotics are given for anti-inflammatory treatment. After the inflammation subsides, it is observed. If a cyst is formed, ostomy can be performed to prevent recurrence. It is difficult to eliminate the possibility of recurrence before the cyst is formed.

Experts say: Treatment of Bartholinitis In the early stage of Bartholinitis, systemic antibiotics can be used for treatment. Since Bartholinitis caused by gonococci has been increasing in recent years, it is best to squeeze the urethral opening before taking the medicine, or take cervical secretions for bacterial culture and do bacterial sensitivity tests. Before the results of the sensitivity test come out, choose antibiotics based on experience. Generally speaking, penicillin drugs have better efficacy. Depending on the situation, local hot compresses or physical therapy can also be used to promote the subsidence of inflammation. At the same time, the vulva should be kept clean and hygienic, and chemical fiber underwear should not be worn.
