Why does infertility occur after abortion?

If you do not get pregnant without taking any contraceptive measures one year after an abortion, it is considered secondary infertility. The causes of infertility are as follows.

(1) Fallopian tube inflammation and blockage. If the patient has severe cervicitis or the disinfection is not strict during the operation, bacteria may be introduced into the uterine cavity, causing inflammation of the fallopian tube, resulting in fallopian tube blockage and preventing the egg and sperm from meeting and fertilization.

(2) Cervical and uterine cavity adhesions During the abortion process, excessive suction or curettage damages the cervical canal and endometrium, which then causes cervical adhesion blockage or uterine cavity adhesion shrinkage. As a result, sperm cannot pass through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity, or the fertilized egg cannot implant and develop.

(3) Amenorrhea: When excessive suction or curettage is performed, the basal layer of the endometrium is sucked away, or excessive scraping with a curette scrapes away the basal layer of the endometrium, making it impossible for the endometrium to regenerate, resulting in long-term amenorrhea, and the fertilized egg has no place to implant.
