What are the causes of amenorrhea after abortion?

Some women are forced to choose abortion to terminate their pregnancy due to unexpected pregnancy. In addition to temporary physical pain, many women experience symptoms of amenorrhea after the operation. There are four main reasons for this.

1. Psychological factors

Generally, abortion surgery is not life-threatening and is considered a relatively minor surgery. However, pregnant women with low psychological quality still have negative emotions such as tension, fear and worry, especially unmarried pregnant girls, who have a heavier psychological burden. Due to the influence of such negative emotions after surgery, the patient's endocrine regulation system is temporarily difficult to return to normal, resulting in functional secondary amenorrhea in a short period of time. Family members should provide psychological counseling and care. As the patient's psychological burden is reduced, after a period of recuperation, menstruation will naturally come.

2. Surgical injury

If you choose to have an abortion in an informal small hospital, improper operation may cause postoperative amenorrhea. Improper curettage damages the basement membrane of the cervix or endometrium, which may cause adhesions of the cervical os or partial adhesions of the uterine wall, leading to amenorrhea. At the same time, due to the storage of blood in the uterine cavity, it may also cause severe abdominal pain.

3. Endocrine changes

After an abortion, the patient's endocrine system changes, especially the sudden drop in human chorionic gonadotropin levels, which temporarily prevents the ovaries from responding normally, resulting in amenorrhea. After a period of time, the endocrine hormones in the body adjust and menstruation will come.

4. Postoperative infection

After an abortion, the patient's uterus becomes very fragile and sensitive, easily invaded by bacteria, causing uterine infection and inflammation, leading to a certain period of amenorrhea.
