Testing fetal development can detect ectopic pregnancy in time

Ectopic pregnancy is a common acute abdomen in gynecology, and its incidence has been on the rise in recent years. By monitoring the growth and development of the fetus through the following means, ectopic pregnancy can be discovered and treated in a timely manner.

Pregnancy Chart

The weight, blood pressure, abdominal circumference, uterine fundus height, fetal position, fetal heart rate, edema, proteinuria, biparietal diameter of ultrasound examination, etc. of the pregnant woman are made into a certain standard curve. During each prenatal examination, the examination findings and results are recorded on the curve at any time, and continuous observation and comparison can be used to detect the growth and development of the fetus.

Uterine fundus height measurement

The data obtained by measuring the height of the uterine fundus is related to the birth weight of the fetus. Therefore, measuring the height of the uterine fundus can predict the growth and development of the fetus. From 20 to 34 weeks of pregnancy, the height of the uterine fundus increases by an average of about 1 cm per week. After 34 weeks, the increase rate of the uterine fundus slows down. A height of the uterine fundus above 30 cm indicates that the fetus is mature. The formula for calculating the fetal development index is: Fetal development index = uterine fundus height (cm) - (month + 1) × 3. A fetal development index <-3 indicates fetal maldevelopment; a fetal development index between -3 and 3 indicates normal fetal development; a fetal development index >5 may indicate twins, polyhydramnios or macrosomia.
