Wearing an IUD can also cause ectopic pregnancy

After giving birth, Haixia got pregnant four times in the past few years due to ineffective contraceptive measures. She had artificial abortions because she didn’t want the pregnancy. Haixia’s uterus was also damaged and became abnormally weak. A year ago, at the doctor’s suggestion, she used an IUD for contraception. She was a little uncomfortable in the first 2 or 3 months, but later she got used to it. The contraceptive effect was satisfactory because Haixia’s stomach was always calm. Unexpectedly, she suddenly had lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding last week, so she went to the obstetrics and gynecology department for treatment. The doctor carefully inquired about her medical history and performed ultrasound and other examinations. It was confirmed that she had an ectopic pregnancy. In view of her desire to have another child, she underwent laparoscopic surgery. During the operation, vasopressin was injected into the pregnancy site, and then a loop was put around the pregnancy site, tightened, and cut and removed. She recovered well after the operation and was discharged soon. Haixia’s another child was "aborted" in this way. She has always been confused about why this happened even with the IUD.

What about ectopic pregnancy?

In medicine, the phenomenon of ectopic pregnancy in women with IUDs is called intrauterine device combined with ectopic pregnancy. Clinical observations show that with the widespread use of intrauterine contraceptive rings, cases of pregnancy with IUDs are not uncommon, and the possibility of spontaneous ectopic pregnancy also exists. The effective contraceptive time of intrauterine contraceptive rings varies, ranging from as long as ten years to as short as half a year, but clinical findings show that more than half of ectopic pregnancies occur within two years after the placement of the ring. The reason may be related to the poor intrauterine environment caused by inflammation of the pregnant woman's uterine cavity, artificial abortion or uterine malformation.
