Pelvic inflammatory disease caused by swimming after intrauterine treatment

One night in August, the hospital emergency room received a 27-year-old female patient named An Qi. When she was admitted to the hospital, she had high fever, headache, chills, rapid heartbeat, lower abdominal pain, a large amount of purulent vaginal discharge, and was in toxic shock. The emergency doctor immediately notified the director of the gynecology department for a consultation, and based on his rich clinical experience, he immediately learned that the patient had acute pelvic inflammatory disease.

Medical history

Patient An Qi had been treated for cervical erosion two weeks ago. Because it was the weekend and the weather was very hot, she simply soaked in the swimming pool for two afternoons, and the wound that had not fully healed was infected, causing acute pelvic inflammatory disease.

examine

Routine blood test showed white blood cell count of 19x109/L, mainly neutrophil. Ultrasound examination showed exudation in the pelvic cavity.

Treatment

After the diagnosis was confirmed, oxygen was immediately given, 4g of oxacillin was intravenously dripped, and 250ml of normal saline, 5mg of dexamethasone, 10ml of vitamin C, and 125ml of vitamin B1 were intravenously dripped. In the next 3 days, 8g of oxacillin was intravenously dripped, bid.

Other measures

After 3 days, Anqi's pelvic inflammation was under control, her body temperature returned to normal, her headache, chills, rapid heartbeat, lower abdominal pain and other symptoms disappeared, and her vaginal discharge returned to normal. The doctor told Anqi to pay attention to the hygiene of her perineum after returning home, not to take a bath in the tub, to keep warm, to eat light and nutritious food, and not to eat spicy and greasy food.

A week later, Anqi returned to the hospital for a follow-up examination and her acute pelvic inflammatory disease was completely cured. Anqi could finally work with peace of mind.

Tips: Pelvic inflammatory disease is a common gynecological disease, which can be acute or chronic, with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease being the most common. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease may cause serious consequences such as diffuse peritonitis, sepsis, and even infectious shock. If not treated promptly and effectively, it can easily turn into chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and affect women's physical and mental health. Pelvic inflammatory disease is mainly caused by infection after childbirth or abortion, infection after intrauterine surgery, unhygienic menstruation, direct spread of inflammation of nearby organs, and acute attacks of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.
