Can I have sex after having uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are a benign tumor. Female friends suffering from uterine fibroids should first consider how to "coexist" with the disease. Whether patients with uterine fibroids can have a normal sexual life becomes a problem they are concerned about.

Whether patients with uterine fibroids can have sexual intercourse varies greatly from person to person. Most patients with uterine fibroids are in the observation period because of their small fibroids and no symptoms. They need to undergo a gynecological examination every 3 to 6 months. These patients can have normal sexual intercourse during the non-menstrual period, just like normal people. However, for patients with uterine fibroids, there are the following situations that need to be treated separately:

Larger uterine fibroids

If the patient's uterine fibroids are large, anemia may occur due to heavy menstrual bleeding. The patient should strengthen nutrition and eat more pork liver, pig blood, fish, and beans to supplement iron and improve physical condition. Sexual intercourse can be resumed 2 days after the menstruation ends, but it should not be intense to avoid causing bleeding again.

Submucous uterine fibroids

For fibroids under the uterine mucosa, especially those located in the cervix or vagina, sexual intercourse can cause bleeding and infection, which in turn aggravates bleeding, causes more vaginal discharge, and even causes fever and abdominal pain. Sexual intercourse can also cause submucosal fibroids to twist, causing severe abdominal pain. Therefore, it is best for such patients not to have sex before they are cured, so as not to increase pain and aggravate the condition.

After hysterectomy

Patients with uterine fibroids who undergo hysterectomy can try sexual intercourse 4 weeks after the operation, but be careful not to insert the penis too deeply when trying.

Uterine fibroids complicated with pregnancy

When patients with uterine fibroids are pregnant, they should not have sexual intercourse. This is because it is difficult for patients with uterine fibroids to conceive, and once they conceive, they are prone to miscarriage. Sexual intercourse can cause spasmodic contractions of the pregnant uterus and induce miscarriage.
