Overview of Vulvar Leukoplakia

Leukoplakia vulvae, also known as vulvar dystrophy, actually refers to a disease of tissue degeneration and pigmentation changes caused by local nerve and vascular nutrition disorders in the vulva, including whitening, coarsening or atrophy of the skin and mucous membranes of the vulva. Localized or diffuse white patches appear on the skin of the patient's genitals, which can spread to the inner side of the lower limbs, perineum and anus. Patients often feel genital itching, dry skin, loss of elasticity, and even atrophy and ulceration, with obvious pain and burning sensation. The onset of the disease is related to endocrine disorders, genital infections, inflammatory stimulation, genetic factors, local physical stimulation of the vulva, and other diseases such as diabetes, vitiligo, and vulvar eczema.

Vulvar leukoplakia belongs to the categories of "vulvar itch", "vulvar pain" and "vulvar pain" in traditional Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine believes that the onset of the disease is mostly caused by the downward flow of damp heat in the liver meridian, which soaks the vulva, or by blood deficiency and liver hyperactivity, liver-kidney yin deficiency, kidney yang deficiency, etc., which are caused by the inability of essence and blood to nourish the vulva.

Vulvar leukoplakia is common in postmenopausal women, and also has a certain incidence rate in women of childbearing age. According to the differences in its tissue pathological changes, it can be divided into four types: hyperplastic type, lichen sclerosus type, atrophic type and mixed type.

Based on the patient's unique symptoms and signs, the disease is generally not difficult to diagnose, and a definitive diagnosis can be made through pathological examination, but it is necessary to distinguish it from vitiligo, vulvar albinism, Behcet's disease, etc. The treatment of this disease is mainly based on local medication after washing with a weak acid formula female care solution with a pH value of 4. In addition, physical methods such as microwave, carbon dioxide laser, high-frequency electric knife, and traditional Chinese medicine can also be used.

There are many reasons for vulvar leukoplakia, but the main reason is vaginal infection and inflammation. Therefore, female friends must pay more attention to a balanced diet, local hygiene, physical exercise, and improve the body's resistance in daily life to reduce infection and vaginal inflammation and prevent the occurrence of vulvar leukoplakia.
