Don't get into the misunderstanding of cervical erosion

What people often call cervical erosion is actually divided into pseudoerosion and inflammatory erosion. Pseudoerosion can occur under some physiological stimulation, such as adolescence and pregnancy. Due to the increase in estrogen levels, the columnar epithelium of the cervical canal proliferates and moves outward, and the external os of the cervix can be seen to be red and granular, so pseudoerosion does not require treatment.

Inflammatory erosion is mostly a chronic inflammation caused by untreated or incompletely treated acute cervicitis. Its main symptoms are increased vaginal secretions, which may also be accompanied by lumbar pain. For example, the leucorrhea is sticky and pus-like, which is not conducive to the passage of sperm and may lead to infertility.

In addition, for inflammatory erosion, further examination is needed to differentiate it from cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and early cervical cancer.

As people pay more attention to gynecological examinations, many female friends have been diagnosed with cervical erosion, and they are afraid of the word "erosion". In fact, there is no need for female friends to be so nervous. Here are some suggestions for your reference:

① Married or sexually active women should have a cervical smear every year. If cervical erosion is found, no treatment is required as long as there is no abnormality in the smear or liquid-based cytology examination and no clinical symptoms;

② If abnormal cells are found in liquid-based cytology, human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is required at the same time, and colposcopy is required for further screening if necessary;

③ Patients with HPV high-risk positive must undergo cervical biopsy and should be closely followed up;

④ If cervical intraepithelial neoplasia is found during biopsy, cervical conization can be performed first to further determine the extent of the lesion, and then subsequent treatment can be decided based on the pathological examination results, the patient's age, and whether or not there is a desire to have children.
