TCM Understanding of Anovulatory Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding

Anovulatory functional uterine bleeding is what Chinese medicine calls "metrorrhagia". Sudden bleeding, rapid onset, and heavy bleeding are called metrorrhagia; continuous bleeding, slow onset, and light bleeding are called "leukorrhagia". Although the bleeding conditions are different, their pathogenesis is the same, and in the course of the disease, they often transform into each other, so metrorrhagia and metrorrhagia are called the same.

The basic pathogenesis of metrorrhagia is the damage of Chong and Ren meridians, which cannot control menstrual blood. The causes of Chong and Ren meridian damage are complex, and in general, there are the following aspects:

1. Spleen deficiency and qi collapse, unable to control: The spleen controls blood. Excessive thinking, overeating and overwork can damage the spleen, cause qi to collapse, and lose control. The Chong and Ren meridians are not solid, and cannot control menstrual blood.

2. Weak kidney Qi and dysfunction of sealing and storing: The kidney is responsible for sealing and storing. Congenital kidney deficiency or weak kidney Qi in young girls, gradual decline of kidney Qi during menopause, excessive sexual intercourse can damage kidney Qi, weaken kidney Qi, dysfunction of sealing and storing, Chong and Ren disorders, and inability to control menstrual blood. Excessive consumption of Yin essence, Yin deficiency and internal heat, virtual fire can stir up blood and cause it to flow recklessly.

3. Heat damages Chong and Ren meridians, forcing blood to flow abnormally: The body is Yin deficient, and virtual fire is excessive inside, which disturbs the blood sea and causes menstrual blood to flow out at an untimely time; the body is Yang excessive, and liver depression turns into fire, and the patient is affected by heat evil, and eats too much spicy and yang-enhancing food, which causes heat evil to enter the body, damage Chong and Ren meridians, and force blood to flow abnormally.

4. Blood stasis blocks Chong and Ren meridians, preventing blood from returning to the meridians: internal injuries caused by the seven emotions, stagnation of Qi and blood stasis; or exposure to heat evil, which burns the blood and causes blood stasis; or exposure to cold evil, which causes blood clotting and blood stasis, blocking Chong and Ren meridians, preventing blood from returning to the meridians and causing blood to flow randomly.
