TCM explains the causes of dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea refers to pain in the lower abdomen or waist during and before and after menstruation. Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological disease. Many female friends do not understand why they have dysmenorrhea. Today, let's learn about the causes of dysmenorrhea.

Generally, menstrual pain can be divided into primary menstrual pain and secondary menstrual pain. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that menstrual pain may be related to physical constitution. The causes of menstrual pain are mostly related to the body constitution. After syndrome differentiation, it is found that there are four common types of menstrual pain: Qi stagnation and blood stasis, cold and dampness stagnation, Qi and blood deficiency, and liver and kidney deficiency.

Cold and dampness stagnation type: People who like to drink cold drinks usually belong to this type. Patients of this type may have cold limbs easily. Hot compresses can relieve the pain, and cold wind will make the pain worse. The menstrual flow will also be less. This is the most common cause of dysmenorrhea.

Liver and Kidney Deficiency Type: The symptoms of liver and kidney deficiency are very similar to those of Qi and blood deficiency. If you have backache during menstruation, or if you have backache at other times and it gets worse during menstruation, you may have liver and kidney deficiency type. Chinese medicine says that "the liver and kidney have the same origin, the liver stores blood, the kidney stores essence, the kidney is the foundation of the innate, and the liver is the innate of women", so the liver and kidney are closely related to dysmenorrhea.

Qi and blood deficiency type: easy to get tired, may be accompanied by anemia, yellowish or pale complexion, less blood color. Speak weakly and in a low voice. The pain is continuous, and it is easy to feel dizzy or have a mild headache. This is also a cause of dysmenorrhea.

Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: often accompanied by abdominal distension, irregular bowel movements, or symptoms that are more obvious when under great emotional stress. It may be accompanied by severe breast swelling before menstruation, or poor blood circulation, dark complexion, dry skin, and blood clots during menstruation.

The above is the cause of dysmenorrhea analyzed from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. The above content is for reference only and cannot be used as a basis for diagnosis and treatment. Because everyone's physical constitution is different, the degree and symptoms of dysmenorrhea are different, so it is recommended that all diagnosis and treatment should follow the guidance of the doctor.
