Can a hydatidiform mole be expelled on its own?

A hydatidiform mole cannot be expelled on its own and needs to be treated with medical means. Common methods include uterine curettage, drug treatment and regular follow-up. A hydatidiform mole is an abnormal pregnancy state. Due to the abnormal development of the fertilized egg, the placental tissue overgrows, forming a blister-like structure similar to a bunch of grapes. This abnormal pregnancy cannot develop normally and there is a risk of malignant transformation, so timely intervention is necessary.

1. Uterine curettage is the main method for treating hydatidiform mole. It is used to remove abnormal tissue in the uterus to avoid infection or malignant transformation caused by residual tissue. The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia, and the blood HCG level needs to be closely monitored after the operation to ensure complete removal.

2. Drug treatment is suitable for some patients. Commonly used drugs include methotrexate, which is used to assist in the removal of residual tissue or prevent malignant transformation. Drug treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor, and liver and kidney function should be monitored regularly.

3. Regular follow-up is a key step after treatment. Blood HCG testing and ultrasound examinations are performed to ensure that there is no residual tissue or signs of malignancy. Follow-up usually lasts for 6 months to 1 year, during which strict contraception is required to avoid another pregnancy interfering with the monitoring results.

The occurrence of hydatidiform mole is related to genetic, environmental and maternal factors, such as advanced maternal age, malnutrition or a history of hydatidiform mole. Preventive measures include pre-pregnancy check-ups, a balanced diet and avoiding exposure to harmful substances. If abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain or worsening of early pregnancy reactions occur, seek medical attention promptly. Although hydatidiform mole cannot be expelled on its own, most patients can fully recover and return to normal life through standardized treatment and follow-up.
