What causes threatened miscarriage?

Threatened abortion is usually caused by genetic, environmental, physiological, traumatic and pathological factors. The cause should be identified as soon as possible and appropriate measures should be taken to intervene. Common causes include fetal chromosomal abnormalities, maternal hormone imbalance, unhealthy lifestyles and infections.

1. Genetic factors:

One of the main causes of threatened miscarriage is abnormal chromosomes in the embryo, which accounts for more than 50% of all miscarriages. Abnormal chromosomes make the embryo develop abnormally or difficult to survive. This is mainly the result of natural selection and is often related to advanced pregnancy and close relatives. It is recommended that couples undergo chromosome examinations during pregnancy preparation, especially for families with a history of recurrent miscarriage.

2 Environmental factors:

An adverse external environment can cause the embryo to fail to develop healthily. For example, exposure to chemicals, long-term inhalation of toxic gases, high temperatures or ionizing radiation can increase the risk of miscarriage. An unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking, excessive drinking or staying up late can damage the health of the embryo and the mother. Improving the environment, staying away from harmful substances, and maintaining a regular schedule are important means to reduce the risk of miscarriage.

3 Physiological factors:

Maternal uterine abnormalities such as uterine malformation, thin endometrium or corpus luteum insufficiency can make it difficult for the embryo to implant and develop normally. Corpus luteum insufficiency can manifest as insufficient progesterone secretion, which can cause threatened abortion. It is recommended to have a comprehensive gynecological examination before pregnancy, and choose drugs to adjust hormone levels based on the results; if necessary, surgery can be performed to improve the uterine structure.

4 Traumatic factors:

External physical stimulation during early pregnancy, such as falls, abdominal impacts, or strenuous exercise, may pose a threat to fetal development and cause threatened miscarriage. During pregnancy, you should try to avoid strenuous exercise and dangerous activities, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, when you need to be especially careful to protect yourself.

5 Pathological factors:

Maternal infection with bacteria or viruses such as Toxoplasma gondii and rubella virus can lead to poor fetal development and directly cause miscarriage. In addition, if systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disease are not controlled, it will also affect the blood supply or nutrition of the placenta and embryo. Regular prenatal check-ups should be conducted during pregnancy, and abnormalities should be treated promptly. For example, commonly used pathological infection tests include blood routine and TORCH screening. Antibiotics or antiviral drugs can be used for treatment under the guidance of a doctor, and chronic diseases should be strictly controlled.

If you experience vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain or other symptoms of threatened miscarriage during pregnancy, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately. After the problem is found, placental support drugs such as progesterone, rest therapy or Chinese medicine conditioning can be used to protect the fetus according to the specific cause. Identifying the cause and receiving treatment are the key to preventing recurrence. At the same time, it is especially important to maintain a calm mood, pay attention to a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
