Abnormal green and heavy vaginal discharge

Abnormal green and heavy vaginal discharge

Abnormal green and copious vaginal discharge may be a sign of vaginal infection or inflammation, which is common in bacterial vaginitis or Trichomonas vaginitis. You need to see a doctor promptly for a clear diagnosis and treatment.

Leucorrhea is a "barometer" of the health of the female reproductive system. Under normal circumstances, it is colorless or milky white, thin or slightly viscous, and has no odor. When the leucorrhea is green and the amount increases, it usually indicates infection or inflammation. Bacterial vaginitis is one of the common causes, which is caused by an imbalance of vaginal flora. The overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria causes the leucorrhea to be gray-green with a fishy smell. Trichomonas vaginitis is caused by infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. The leucorrhea is yellow-green and foamy, accompanied by vulvar itching and burning. Diseases such as cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease may also cause abnormal leucorrhea.

In the case of abnormal green leucorrhea and a lot of it, the treatment method needs to be selected according to the specific cause. Bacterial vaginitis can be treated with oral metronidazole or clindamycin, and metronidazole vaginal suppositories can be used for local medication. Trichomonas vaginitis requires oral metronidazole or tinidazole, and sexual partners should also be treated at the same time to avoid cross infection. Cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease requires the use of antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor, such as cephalosporins or azithromycin. In daily care, it is recommended to avoid using irritating washes to clean the vulva, choose cotton underwear and change it frequently, and keep the vulva dry and clean. In terms of diet, you can consume more foods rich in probiotics, such as yogurt, to help maintain the balance of vaginal flora. If symptoms persist or worsen, you should seek medical attention in time to avoid delaying the condition.
