When does adenomyosis require surgery?

Adenomyosis is caused by the invasion of endometrial glands and stroma into the myometrium, and often occurs in multiparous women aged 30-50 years.

Main symptoms:

1. Progressive dysmenorrhea, characterized by periodic lower abdominal pain, mostly menstrual dysmenorrhea. Some patients experience lower abdominal pain at a fixed time before and after menstruation, and the pain gradually worsens;

2. Increased uterus Increased endometrial area, excessive endometrial hyperplasia, poor uterine contraction and other factors, about half of the patients have symptoms of increased menstruation and prolonged menstruation;

3. The uterus presses on the bladder, causing urinary incontinence and a decrease in sexual desire in about 70% of patients.

The treatment of adenomyosis depends on the patient's age, fertility requirements and symptoms, and is divided into drug treatment and surgical treatment.

1. Currently, there is no effective drug to cure this disease. GnRH-a, danazol, or gestrinone can be used for treatment of young patients who want to have children, are near menopause, and have mild symptoms. However, the pain is relieved or disappears, and the uterus shrinks. However, after stopping the drug, symptoms reappear and the uterus enlarges.

2. Severe symptoms: Ovariectomy can be used for patients with severe symptoms, old age, no fertility requirements or ineffective drug treatment. Whether the ovaries are preserved depends on whether there are lesions in the ovaries and the age of the patient.

When does adenomyosis require surgery?

Adenomyosis is a gynecological disease with diffuse hyperplasia of the uterine myometrium.

Severe adenomyosis should be treated surgically, with subtotal or total hysterectomy. If the lesion is localized, lesion removal can be considered, but the recurrence rate is high. Mild symptoms can be relieved with medication.

Through the above introduction, we must have a certain understanding of when adenomyosis requires surgery. Adenomyosis requires hysterectomy when the condition is very serious in the later stage. Once the symptoms of the disease are found, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment. Do not delay the best treatment period.
