Are you doing the right thing to lose weight? 5 misconceptions that you must know!

The Internet is full of information, but it is full of wrong ideas about weight loss

Although my eating habits and lifestyle since childhood have not made me a fat person as defined by the outside world, as a girl, let me ask you, which girl doesn't think that she has been fat? I am 165cm tall and weigh 56kg. No woman would think that I am too thin, and I am certainly one of them. So I also wanted to "lose weight". As a homebody, my first step was to search for information online. However, I couldn't tell what was correct information, so I started trying my own "weight loss method". Later, I found that these five wrong concepts were actually the thoughts of most people:

Misconception 1: Will you lose weight if you eat less and exercise more?

First, I bought a very basic stepper and pedaled on it for 40 minutes every day. Then, I bought my first non-moving "bicycle" in my life, and exercised for 40 minutes every day, but I only focused on the so-called "aerobic exercise" and did not do some "resistance training" or "weight training". I just thought that I would lose weight if I moved.

As for diet, the amount is half of the normal diet, but the quality of the food is not taken into consideration and only the quantity is considered.

Misconception 2: Halving the starch will double the effect?

Now I know that this idea is really wrong, but it was indeed a popular idea in the weight loss world at that time. After all, starch was sinful. Although I didn’t stop eating starch, I didn’t understand what “high-quality starch” meant at that time. What is "refined starch"? Eat half a bowl of rice, half a ball of noodles from the noodle stall, and half a portion of bread. In short, no matter what starch it is, just eat half a portion.

Simply eating less starch without correctly choosing the "high-quality starch" you should eat, focusing only on portion size and calories, and ignoring the "nutrition, food type, and cooking method" that should be paid attention to, will of course be ineffective. The fallacy about starch weight loss will be explained in detail in the next paragraph.

Misconception 3: Only boiled rice cakes are good?

Boiled vegetables, chicken, fish, basically everything is boiled in water. Besides being convenient, people also foolishly and naively believe that this is a healthier and weight-loss cooking method. Because of this, we neglect the intake of fats, especially the "good fats". The "essential fatty acids" that the human body needs to obtain through food. Our body does not produce fats, but fats are key nutrients for maintaining physiological functions and must be obtained from the diet. Of course, I didn't know this at the time.

Misconception 4/Eating meat = gaining meat = gaining fat = gaining weight?

I don't like meat by nature. In order to lose weight, I ate even less meat. I didn't realize that I had to consume enough "protein". I didn't even have this concept, let alone the concept of "plant protein". I often had a bowl of white rice, two servings of boiled vegetables, and a portion of fruit for a meal. Or go to the night market and buy a bowl of noodle soup, a portion of boiled vegetables, and a braised egg. Otherwise, buy two white steamed buns and an apple. Or you can cook your own oatmeal porridge by adding water and salt to the oats, beat an egg, and blanch the vegetables, and you have a meal. Looking back now, I foolishly thought that this was healthy and would help with weight loss, but in fact the nutrition was very unbalanced.

Misconception 5/Light weight = beauty = thinness = health?

At that time, there was no concept of body fat percentage. People believed that losing weight meant being thin, and gaining weight meant being fat. Body fat meters were not popular at that time, so the indicator for weight loss was weight. At that time, I lost weight from 56 kg, and it took me about a year to lose weight to 52 kg. Then I maintained this weight, regardless of whether my body was composed of muscle or fat...

This period of incorrect weight loss actually helped me develop the habit of cooking my own food, which was an unexpected benefit. However, my body started to have problems again, and I needed medication to get my period back...
