Too little sleep! Doctor: It’s hard to lose weight if you have a big appetite

According to statistics, about 5 million people in Taiwan over the age of 17 suffer from sleep disorders. According to a study published in the Canadian Medical Journal, if adults sleep less than four hours a day, it may cause immune system disorders and lead to cancer. Research from the University of Chicago in the United States also pointed out that lack of sleep will greatly stimulate your appetite, making you eat a lot, and thus destroying your weight loss plan, making it difficult to lose weight!

Studies have shown that lack of sleep makes it difficult for people who want to lose weight!

Dr. Xiao Dunren, a hepatobiliary gastroenterologist who has long studied obesity medicine, said that when blood sugar levels are high, the body will secrete more insulin to improve metabolism. However, when insulin takes effect and lowers blood sugar, the body will immediately feel hungry and want to eat more. He further said: "It's like a vicious cycle, making people who lack sleep have a particularly good appetite!"

According to a sleep study conducted at the University of Chicago, long-term sleep deprivation can lead to significant changes in the secretion of two main hormones in the body that regulate hunger: leptin and cortisol. When the subjects in the study were observed, the lack of sleep made their appetite increase, and even though they didn't need to consume any additional calories, their brains still felt as if they had lost several thousand calories.

Research suggests that "lack of sleep is a loyal path to obesity!" It is expected that many young people who are accustomed to going to bed late, sleeping less, and are not currently in danger of being overweight have actually already planted the seeds of future obesity. In addition, due to less sleep, the body secretes more adrenaline, and blood sugar rises accordingly, which is also one of the factors that lead to the risk of obesity.

In addition to the sleep research at the University of Chicago, Columbia University in the United States also has related findings. Studies have shown that people who sleep less than 4 hours a night are 73% more likely to be obese than those who sleep 7-9 hours. For people who sleep an average of 5 hours, their risk of obesity increases by 50%. For those who sleep 6 hours, it increases by 23%. Moreover, if you only sleep 5 and a half hours a day, your body metabolism will drop by 8%. In a year, you may gain 5.7 kilograms.
