The food is not safe! Convenience store sandwiches contain excessive E. coli

The E. coli in commercially available sandwiches was found to exceed the standard! On the 27th, the New Taipei City Health Bureau announced two sandwiches that failed inspections, including a tuna sandwich from a breakfast shop on Siwei Road in Xinzhuang District and a New Orleans grilled chicken sandwich from Hi-Life's Xinshu branch in Xinzhuang. The Department of Health emphasized that the detection of E. coli and E. coli groups exceeded the standard, indicating that the food was contaminated during the production process. The industry has been asked to make corrections. If the re-inspection still does not comply with the regulations, a fine will be imposed.

The New Taipei City Health Bureau reminds consumers that sandwiches should be eaten as soon as possible after purchase. If not eaten immediately, they should be refrigerated below 7°C to ensure freshness and safety.

Lin Guanzhen, chief of the Food and Drug Administration Department of the New Taipei City Health Bureau, said that in March, 40 sandwiches sold in convenience stores and restaurants were randomly tested, and the test results found that two of them contained E. coli that exceeded the hygiene standards. According to the list of unqualified products released by the Health Bureau, they are tuna sandwiches (Siwei store, the best breakfast store) and New Orleans grilled chicken sandwiches (Hi-Life New Tree branch, food source is Tonghao Food Company).

The Health Bureau reminds consumers that sandwiches should be eaten as soon as possible after purchase. If not eaten immediately, they should be refrigerated below 7°C to ensure freshness and safety. Section Chief Lin Guanzhen pointed out that this batch of products was inspected in early March and the inspection report was announced in the afternoon, but all the products had already been consumed.

The Health Bureau stressed that it is impossible for fresh food such as sandwiches to wait more than two weeks before being taken off the shelves. Currently, businesses have been ordered to remove products with the same batch number from shelves and recall them, and to correct the problem within a specified period of time. If re-inspection still does not comply with regulations, they will be fined NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 in accordance with Article 10 of the Food Sanitation Management Act.
