Golden "Appleberry"! US research: Eat more to stay away from diabetes

"An apple a day, keeps doctors away." is a well-known proverb in Western culture, but this saying is definitely not groundless! Long-term research by the National Institutes of Health in the United States has found that eating large amounts of fragrant fruits such as blueberries, apples or peaches that are rich in "flavonoids" (or flavonoid compounds) will significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, which can be said to kill two birds with one stone.

Reuters recently quoted a paper published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the American journal of Clinical Nutrition, which tracked 200,000 people for 24 years, of whom more than 12,000 developed type 2 diabetes. The paper then analyzed their fruit eating habits, frequency, and types, and came to a very interesting conclusion.

For those who eat blueberries and apples almost every day, the chance of getting diabetes is 23% lower than those who almost never eat them. The researchers clarified that it is not these fruits themselves that bring benefits, but the "flavonoids" contained in them are very helpful in stabilizing blood sugar and blood pressure in the body, thereby achieving the effect of preventing diabetes. This is completely consistent with the conclusions reached by Finnish scholars before.

The American Diabetes Association roughly estimates that among the 300 million people in the United States, as many as 26 million people have diabetes due to genetic or acquired factors. Instead of using symptomatic drugs to control blood sugar after the onset of the disease, it is better to start with daily diet to achieve real preventive effects. However, it should be noted that the whole fruit must be directly ingested to have obvious effects. Even if you drink 100% pure fruit juice, the effect is still limited.
