US study: Elderly people may suffer from memory loss if they consume too many calories

Alzheimer's disease, also known as "Alzheimer's Disease", is the most common cause of dementia. So far, there is no effective diagnosis and treatment method to prevent the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease. However, a study in the United States found that if we pay a little attention to the eating habits of the elderly and control their calorie intake, we may be able to avoid danger and prevent memory loss.

The British Daily Mail reported today that the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, the United States, conducted a survey of 1,200 elderly people aged 70-89 and found that the more calories each person consumed per day, the higher the chance of brain cognitive impairment. Even if all key factors that may cause amnesia, such as age, education level or history of cardiovascular disease, are taken into account, the two still show a clear positive correlation.

The researchers divided the subjects into three groups and gave them meals with different calorie levels. After a period of time, they conducted memory tests. The results showed that the elderly who ate more than 2,100 calories a day generally had unsatisfactory results, and compared with the other group of subjects, the proportion of them suffering from mild cognitive impairment was exactly 100% higher. The report is expected to be released at the American Annual Neurology Congress in April.

Cognitive impairment is often seen as a precursor to Alzheimer's disease, and the elderly are a high-risk group. However, the results of this study suggest that dietary habits may also be one of the key factors, which has caused considerable discussion in the scientific community. Doctors generally recommend that developing regular exercise habits and playing more educational games to exercise your brain can effectively reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
