What should I do if I have my period after having a colposcopy?

Menstruation after colposcopy may be caused by vaginal irritation, cervicitis, endometritis, etc., which can be treated with home care, oral medications, etc.

1. Vaginal stimulation:

During colposcopy, a vaginal dilator is usually placed to extract secretions from the surface of the vaginal or cervical mucosa for pathological testing. At this time, if the placement or extraction is harder, it will cause damage to the vaginal and cervical mucosa, leading to rupture and bleeding. Usually, local care should be done well, underwear should be changed regularly, underwear should be disinfected in time, and the vulva should be cleaned regularly to prevent inflammation and infection.

2. Cervicitis:

If local cleaning and care are not done well after colposcopy, bacteria will multiply, thus irritating the cervical mucosa and causing local inflammatory changes. The main clinical manifestations are abnormal vaginal bleeding, changes in menstrual cycle, lower abdominal pain and other symptoms. Oral cephalosporin capsules, levofloxacin hydrochloride tablets, amoxicillin capsules and other drugs can be taken under the guidance of a doctor.

3. Endometritis:

After the colposcopy, if the sex life is not good, it will also cause damage to the endometrium, thus forming an inflammatory reaction. The main symptoms are increased vaginal discharge, waist and abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, etc. Under the guidance of a doctor, you can take anti-inflammatory drugs such as azithromycin capsules, cefaclor dispersible tablets, and roxithromycin capsules orally.

In addition to the above common causes, it may also be caused by pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis and other reasons. You should conduct a complete examination and cooperate with the doctor to give correct treatment.
