Is hysteroscopic surgery for endometrial polyps painful?

Endometrial polyps are a common gynecological disease caused by localized excessive proliferation of the endometrium. They appear as single or multiple smooth masses protruding from the uterine cavity with different pedicle lengths, which can cause irregular vaginal bleeding and infertility. Women from childbearing age to menopause have a high incidence of endometrial polyps.

Causes of endometrial polyps:

1. Endocrine factors. Since estrogen can promote endometrial hyperplasia and menstruation, the formation of endometrial polyps is closely related to excessively high estrogen levels.

2. Inflammatory factors, long-term gynecological inflammation stimulation, intrauterine foreign body stimulation, delivery, miscarriage, postpartum infection, surgery or mechanical stimulation may all lead to endometrial polyps.

3. Other factors, such as increasing age, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and long-term use of amoxifen after breast cancer surgery, are all high-risk factors for endometrial polyps.

Endometrial polyps can occur at any age after puberty, but are common in women over 35 years old. Single, smaller endometrial polyps usually have no clinical symptoms and are usually found during general examinations after hysterectomy for other diseases, or during diagnostic dilation and curettage. Some patients can see menorrhagia and prolonged menstruation, which are related to increased endometrial area and excessive endometrial proliferation. Large polyps or polyps that protrude into the cervical canal are prone to secondary infection and necrosis, causing irregular bleeding and foul odor.
