What is an ovarian cyst

What is an ovarian cyst

Ovarian cyst is a common gynecological disease, which refers to the fluid-filled cystic structure formed in the ovary. In a broad sense, ovarian cyst includes all cystic structures in the ovary, while in a narrow sense, ovarian cyst refers to a simple ovarian cystic mass.

The specific cause of ovarian cysts is not completely clear, and it may be related to a variety of factors such as genetics, endocrine, and lifestyle habits. There are many ways to classify ovarian cysts. According to the pathological nature, they can be divided into physiological cysts and pathological cysts. Physiological cysts are generally small, more common in adolescents and women of childbearing age, and most can disappear on their own. Pathological cysts are generally larger, common in postmenopausal women, and require treatment.

The symptoms of ovarian cysts are related to the size, location, and nature of the cyst. Generally speaking, smaller ovarian cysts may not cause obvious symptoms, while larger ovarian cysts may cause lower abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, menstrual disorders, etc. If complications such as torsion or rupture of the ovarian cyst occur, severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may also occur.

The treatment of ovarian cysts depends on the nature and size of the cyst. Physiological cysts generally do not require treatment and can disappear on their own. Pathological cysts require medication or surgery depending on the specific situation. Medication is generally suitable for mild patients, while surgery is suitable for larger cysts or when complications occur.
