How many days can conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy kill the embryo?

Conservative treatment is adopted for female ectopic pregnancy, which means using drugs to kill the embryo and then slowly absorb it. Generally, the shortest treatment period is 1-2 weeks and the longest treatment period is 3-4 weeks.

When a woman has an ectopic pregnancy, if the color Doppler ultrasound indicates that the mass is less than 4cm and the blood HCG is less than 2000U/L, and the mass has not ruptured and there is no obvious pelvic effusion, conservative treatment with drugs can usually be considered. Conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy takes a long time, and most require 1-2 weeks. Check the blood HCG level on the 4th and 7th day of medication until the blood HCG drops below 5U/L. If the serum HCG decreases by less than 15% 4-7 days after treatment, the treatment needs to be repeated. For those with higher HCG, the conservative treatment time is extended accordingly, which may be up to about 1 month. Generally, the serum level decreases 14 days after medication, and is negative for three consecutive times, the abdominal pain is relieved or disappears, and the vaginal bleeding decreases or disappears, which means that the pregnancy preservation treatment is effective.

Conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy may not be effective for some patients, and close attention should be paid during the treatment. Once worsening abdominal pain or shock occurs, it indicates the possibility of ectopic pregnancy rupture, and surgical treatment is required immediately.
