Cervical erosion is a common gynecological disease. Among married women, its incidence rate is as high as 40%~60%. The cervix of women is divided into the inner mouth and the outer mouth. The epithelium of the inner mouth is a kind of slender red columnar cell that secretes mucus, and the outer mouth is covered with gray-yellow squamous epithelium. Under the influence of certain factors, the squamous epithelium of the outer mouth of the cervix will be covered by columnar epithelium, forming cervical erosion. The eroded surface under the colposcope is actually a complete columnar epithelium. Because the columnar epithelium is a single layer and the lower stroma is red, it is red erosion when observed with the naked eye.

It can be seen that cervical erosion does not directly cause erosion. Compared with the normal smooth cervix, it just intuitively feels like erosion. This change is related to the junction of the squamous epithelium and columnar epithelium of the cervix.
