Congenital absence of vagina is a congenital malformation that occurs in the reproductive tract. Most of them are accompanied by the absence of uterus or rudimentary uterus (i.e., undeveloped uterus). There are also very few patients who only have no vagina but have uterus and ovaries. The cause of congenital absence of vagina is mainly abnormal development during the fetal period, and there is a problem during the critical period of reproductive organ development. The incidence rate is not very high. Folks call such women "stone women". Most patients are found in the hospital after they have passed puberty but have no menstruation or have periodic lower abdominal pain. Especially those without vagina and uterus basically have no symptoms. Usually, they are found in the hospital because of primary amenorrhea after puberty or sexual intercourse difficulties after marriage. Relatively speaking, those patients with congenital vaginal absence who have normal uterine development or uterine dysplasia but endometrium can be found earlier. "Because once these patients enter puberty, they will still have periodic endometrial shedding, that is, menstruation. However, since the patients have no vagina, menstrual blood cannot be discharged, and it will accumulate or flow back to the pelvic cavity, thus causing periodic pelvic and abdominal pain." The main treatment for congenital absence of vagina is to perform artificial vaginoplasty. The principle of this operation is to separate an artificial cavity about 8 to 10 cm long between the bladder and the rectum, cover the cavity wall with tissues made of various materials, and fill it with gauze to make the tissue grow closely against the cavity wall to form an artificial vagina. After about 7 to 10 days, when the tissue covering the cavity wall has grown well, a hard model can be used to prevent the artificial vagina from collapsing, tissue contracture and adhesion. After half a year, the patient will be able to have a normal sexual life. Since uterus transplantation and artificial uterus are still not possible at present, patients with congenital absence of vagina without uterus cannot realize their desire to have normal children. Even if they have a uterus, it is technically difficult to connect an artificial vagina to the uterus. Therefore, it is difficult for this type of patients with congenital absence of vagina to realize their desire to have children. |
