Is Bartholinitis Contagious?

Is Bartholinitis Contagious?

Bartholin glands are also called Bartholin glands. They are located below the labia majora on both sides of women. There is one on each side, about the size of a green bean, and consists of two parts: the gland and the duct. Bartholin glanditis is not a contagious disease and is generally not contagious. So what causes it and how to treat it? Let's learn about it together.

Here are the reasons:

1. Pathogenesis

This disease is often a mixed infection with complex pathogens. The main pathogens are endogenous pathogens and pathogens of sexually transmitted diseases. In China, they are mostly Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In foreign countries and some areas in China, Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the main cause. It can also be caused by anaerobic bacteria (including Bacteroides).

2. Causes

The Bartholin's glands are located in the deep 1/3 of the labia majora on both sides, and the gland duct opens between the hymen and the labia minora. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical location, pathogens can easily invade and cause Bartholin's gland inflammation when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth, or other situations. When the Bartholin's glands are infected, the gland ducts are often affected first, and the gland duct openings are blocked due to inflammation, congestion, and edema. The secretions and exudates are not easy to be discharged, which can form Bartholin's gland abscesses.

Treatment options include:

1. Surgical treatment:

Abscesses should be drained and ostomy performed immediately. This is because simple incision and drainage can only temporarily relieve symptoms. After the incision is closed, cysts or repeated infections may still form. When performing incision and drainage of abscesses, pay attention to making the incision large enough to prevent poor drainage of pus, resulting in fistula formation or repeated abscess attacks.

2. Other special therapies:

Apply local heat, infrared or microwave therapy.
