Causes of abdominal pain after abortion

Hematometra

Abdominal pain caused by intrauterine hemorrhage usually occurs within a few hours after the operation. Patients often have unbearable abdominal pain and a small amount of vaginal bleeding. Gynecological examination can reveal that the uterus is significantly enlarged, soft, and tender. Patients with intrauterine hemorrhage after abortion are rare, and are generally seen in patients with an overly tilted uterus and a tight cervical opening.

Incomplete abortion

If the uterus is not completely removed during the abortion operation, the villi and decidual tissue in the uterine cavity will not be completely removed, which will lead to incomplete abortion, paroxysmal contractions of the uterus, severe abdominal pain after the operation, and increased vaginal bleeding.

Uterine perforation

Uterine perforation is a serious complication of abortion surgery, which is more common in women who become pregnant again within one year after cesarean section or who frequently undergo artificial abortion surgery. When the uterus is perforated, the patient will experience sudden, persistent and severe abdominal pain, accompanied by a small amount of vaginal bleeding. If uterine perforation is combined with internal bleeding, it will cause peritoneal irritation and abdominal pain in the patient.

Postoperative infection

The surgeon's failure to pay attention to aseptic operation during surgery, the patient's failure to pay attention to hygiene after surgery, and premature sexual intercourse after surgery may all cause postoperative infection, leading to genital inflammations such as acute endometritis, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, and salpingitis, causing abdominal pain.
