After ovulation, under the action of progesterone and estrogen secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary, the proliferative endometrium secretes, which is the secretory endometrium. After the corpus luteum in the ovaries degenerates, due to the decrease in the amount of estrogen and progesterone, the endometrium loses its support and becomes necrotic and flaky, which manifests as menstruation.
