Women should be alert to pelvic inflammatory disease during the postpartum period

Women are weak after childbirth, and the cervix fails to close in time due to the outflow of residual blood and turbid fluid, and there is a detachment surface of the placenta in the uterine cavity. Especially for women who give birth naturally, their cervix is obviously dilated. Mothers should take measures to prevent pelvic inflammatory disease during the confinement period to avoid laying the root of the disease and affecting their future life and health.

1. Perineum cleaning

Women should pay attention to the cleaning of the perineum after childbirth, and keep the vulva clean and hygienic. With the help of family members, the perineum can be scrubbed at least twice a day, and one more time after defecation. Cotton balls can be dipped in sterile water or saline. If conditions permit, 1/2000 chlorhexidine solution or povidone-iodine solution can be used to wipe the vulva. First wipe the mons pubis and the labia on both sides, and finally the anus. Do not wipe in order to avoid contamination. After scrubbing, replace with a sterilized perineal pad.

2. Guide the mother to urinate

Some women have difficulty urinating after childbirth due to surgery or other reasons. In this case, they must actively guide urination. They can wash the vulva with warm water or fumigate the vulva with hot water to relieve the spasm of the urethral sphincter and induce urination reflex. They can also induce urination with the sound of slow running water or apply a hot water bag to the lower abdomen to improve the blood circulation of the bladder and eliminate edema, avoiding pelvic infection in the future.

3. Avoid sexual intercourse in the early postpartum period

Normal sexual intercourse after childbirth should be carried out after 2 months. Early sexual intercourse can cause pelvic diseases in women and harm their health. Women with postpartum genital tract infection or poor perineal wound healing should also postpone sexual intercourse. During the first sexual intercourse after childbirth, the husband should not move too quickly or roughly, but should take appropriate positions and postures to complete the intercourse slowly, and 1 to 2 times a week is appropriate.
