Common causes of ovarian chocolate cysts

Common causes of ovarian chocolate cysts

Ovarian chocolate cyst is a type of endometriosis, accounting for about 80%. Initially, the lesion only affects one ovary. As the cyst grows, it can affect both sides. The common causes of ovarian chocolate cysts are mainly the following.

1. Endocrine factors

The ovaries are small and hidden deep in the pelvic cavity, but they are important organs for producing eggs and ovulation, secreting hormones, and balancing endocrine. Ovarian cysts often occur during the reproductive years when endocrine secretions are active. Endocrine disorders have an important impact on cyst formation. For example, emotional discomfort can lead to menstrual disorders, and waste in the body cannot be eliminated in time, accumulating in the ovaries to form cysts.

2. Fallopian tube obstruction

Every month, the unfertilized follicles in the ovaries become waste and need to be excreted. The waste is squeezed out by the body's hydraulic pressure. If the fallopian tubes develop abdominal lesions and become blocked, the eggs that cannot be excreted will accumulate in the ovaries, forming chocolate cysts.

3. Frequent sexual activity

Frequent sexual life is also an important cause of ovarian chocolate cysts. It usually occurs in adolescent girls or menopausal women, which has a lot to do with their frequent sexual life.

4. Excessive miscarriage

Chocolate cysts are mainly caused by the endometrial fragments shed from the uterine wall during menstruation, which cannot be completely discharged from the vagina due to poor drainage, resulting in a small amount of waste fluid flowing back into the pelvic cavity through the fallopian tube. After multiple artificial abortions, the adhesion and shrinkage of the cervical opening cause excretion disorders, thus chocolate cysts occur.
