Secondary amenorrhea can affect women's normal reproductive function

Amenorrhea is divided into primary and secondary amenorrhea. Secondary amenorrhea can affect women's normal reproductive function.

1. Atresia of the lower part of the reproductive tract. For example, congenital atresia of the cervix, vagina, hymen, labia, etc., or adhesive atresia caused by acquired damage. Although menstruation occurs, menstrual blood cannot flow out. This situation is called hidden or pseudo-amenorrhea.

2. Genital insufficiency or dysplasia. Some patients are born without ovaries, or their ovaries are dysplastic, or even damaged, and cannot produce estrogen and progesterone. Therefore, the endometrium cannot undergo cyclical changes, and there will be no endometrial shedding, so there will be no menstruation. Some patients are born without a uterus, or their endometrium is dysplastic, or their endometrium is damaged. Even if the ovaries are functioning well and the secretion of estrogen and progesterone is normal, they will not have menstruation, which affects conception.

3. Secondary amenorrhea can cause diseases such as severe pulmonary tuberculosis, severe anemia, malnutrition, such as obesity, reproductive incompetence, malnutrition, etc., and the influence of some endocrine disorders in the body, such as dysfunction of the adrenal glands, thyroid glands, pancreas, etc., which lead to abnormal menstruation and affect fertility.

4. Secondary amenorrhea can lead to abnormal pituitary or hypothalamic function. The pituitary gland can secrete gonadotropin, which regulates ovarian function and maintains menstruation. If the pituitary gland is dysfunctional, it will affect the secretion of gonadotropin, further affecting the function of the ovaries and causing amenorrhea.
