Treatment of Damp-Heat and Stasis Syndrome of Uterine Myoma

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in women. They can be classified into the categories of "stone masses", "uterine bleeding" and "syndrome masses" in traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that their occurrence is mostly due to disharmony of internal organs, imbalance of qi and blood, and accumulation of phlegm, depression and blood stasis in the uterus, which becomes a symptom over time. They are divided into various syndromes such as qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome, cold and dampness stagnation syndrome, phlegm dampness and blood stasis syndrome, kidney deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, damp-heat and blood stasis syndrome, etc. The treatment of damp-heat and blood stasis syndrome includes the following:

The patient presents with lower abdominal mass, pain that refuses to be pressed, heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation, red color, blood clots, thick menstrual substance, heavy leucorrhea, yellow and foul smelling, lumbar pain, yellow urine and constipation; dark red tongue, ecchymosis or petechiae on the edge of the tongue, greasy yellow fur, and slippery pulse. Treatment should be to clear away heat and dampness, activate blood circulation and eliminate symptoms. The prescription can be Dahuang Mudan Decoction (Golden Chamber Synopsis) with Red Caulis, Patrinia, Lithospermum officinale, and Red Peony Root.

The ingredients of Dahuang Mudan Tang include: rhubarb, peony, peach kernel, melon seeds, and sodium sulfate. If the patient has severe lower abdominal pain, frankincense and myrrh can be added to promote blood circulation and relieve pain; if the amount of vaginal discharge is heavy, Guanzhong and Tufuling can be added to clear away heat, promote dampness and stop vaginal discharge; if the patient has a fever and the fever does not subside, dandelion, purslane, and purple gentian can be added to clear away heat and detoxify; if the patient has excessive menstrual flow, peach kernel can be removed from the prescription, and Guanzhong charcoal, Sanguisorba officinalis, Sophora japonica, Platycladus orientalis, and Purslane can be added to clear away heat, cool blood, and stop bleeding.

It should be noted that Chinese medicine emphasizes treatment based on syndrome differentiation, so patients should take medication under the guidance of a professional doctor to avoid inappropriate prescriptions and delays in the disease.
