Overview of Ectopic Pregnancy

Overview of Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy, also known as ectopic pregnancy, refers to the implantation and development of the fertilized egg outside the uterine cavity. Ectopic pregnancy occurs in the fallopian tube, ovary, abdominal cavity, broad ligament, cervix and rudimentary uterine horn, etc. Tubal pregnancy is the most common, accounting for about 95% of all cases. Tubal pregnancy is most common in the ampulla, accounting for about 60%, 25% occurs in the isthmus of the fallopian tube, and 15% occurs in the fimbria and interstitial part of the fallopian tube. In recent years, the incidence of ectopic pregnancy has shown a clear upward trend. The ratio of ectopic pregnancy to normal pregnancy in my country has increased from 1:167-322 in 1970 to 1:56-93 in 1989.

The occurrence of ectopic pregnancy is related to chronic salpingitis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, tuberculosis, endometriosis, abnormal fallopian tube development, multiple abortions, intrauterine contraceptive device placement, smoking, etc. Women who have sex without taking contraceptive measures should be highly alert to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy when they experience symptoms such as amenorrhea, a small amount of vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal distension, a feeling of defecation, nausea and vomiting. They should be treated with caution and seek treatment as soon as possible to avoid rupture and bleeding that may lead to a drop in blood pressure, syncope, shock, or even life-threatening.

The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy mostly relies on HCG measurement, B-ultrasound examination, posterior fornix puncture, diagnostic curettage and pathology and laparoscopy, etc. It needs to be differentiated from acute abdominal diseases such as ovarian rupture, intussusception, appendicitis, and intestinal torsion. There are many treatments for ectopic pregnancy, mainly including drug therapy, laparotomy, minimally invasive treatment, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment.

Ectopic pregnancy is very harmful to women, so they should pay attention to prevention, pay attention to personal hygiene, especially menstrual hygiene, avoid unclean sexual life, do a good job of contraception when not preparing for pregnancy, actively treat reproductive system diseases, live a regular life, and stay away from tobacco and alcohol.
