What changes occur in the uterus during an ectopic pregnancy?

What is an ectopic pregnancy? What changes will occur in the uterus during an ectopic pregnancy? An ectopic pregnancy in a woman means that something went wrong during the migration of the fertilized egg and it did not reach the uterus but stayed somewhere else. So, what changes will occur in the uterus during an ectopic pregnancy in a woman? Let our experts introduce it to you in detail below.

Changes in the uterus during ectopic pregnancy: HCG produced by trophoblasts in women with ectopic pregnancy maintains the growth of the corpus luteum and increases the secretion of steroid hormones. As a result, menstruation stops, the uterus becomes larger and softer, and the endometrium undergoes a decidual reaction.

Changes in the uterus during ectopic pregnancy : If the embryo dies in a woman with ectopic pregnancy, the trophoblastic activity disappears, and the decidua peels off from the uterine wall, causing vaginal bleeding. Sometimes the decidua can be completely peeled off, and the triangular decidual casts are discharged with vaginal bleeding; sometimes they are discharged in fragments. The discharged tissue has no villi, and no trophoblastic cells are found in histological examination. The morphological changes of the endometrium are diverse. In addition to the decidual changes of the endometrium, if the embryo has died for a long time, the endometrium may show proliferative changes, and sometimes Arias-Stella (AS) reactions can be seen. Microscopic examination shows hyperplasia of endometrial glandular epithelial cells, enlargement of endometrial glandular cells, unclear cell boundaries, glandular cells arranged in clusters, protruding into the glandular cavity, disappearance of cell polarity, hypertrophy and deep staining of the nucleus, and vacuoles in the cytoplasm. This reaction of excessive endometrial hyperplasia and secretion may be caused by excessive stimulation of steroid hormones. Although it has certain value for diagnosis, it is not unique to tubal pregnancy. In addition, after the embryo dies, some villi that penetrate deep into the muscular layer still survive, the corpus luteum degenerates slowly, and the endometrium can still show a secretory response.

The above are the changes in the uterus during ectopic pregnancy. I believe you have already understood it. I hope that patients with ectopic pregnancy and their families must seek early treatment if they suffer from this disease, so as not to delay the best time for treatment.
