Why do I need a hysterectomy for adenomyosis?

For patients with adenomyosis, if the condition is severe and the symptoms cannot be relieved by medication or other conservative treatments, hysterectomy may be one of the treatment options that must be considered.

Adenomyosis refers to the invasion of endometrial glands and stroma into the myometrium, causing symptoms such as uterine enlargement, dysmenorrhea, and excessive menstrual flow. The root cause is that the endometrium "goes to the wrong place", growing like a weed where it shouldn't grow, and causing severe pain and other discomfort by releasing inflammatory factors. Although drugs can help relieve symptoms, they cannot completely cure the disease, and long-term use may cause side effects.

Hysterectomy is considered an effective method because it can fundamentally remove the "lesion" and completely stop the occurrence of the disease. For patients with severe dysmenorrhea, anemia, and a significant decline in quality of life caused by adenomyosis, especially for women who have no fertility needs, hysterectomy may bring the most thorough solution to the problem. However, before recommending this operation, doctors usually comprehensively evaluate the patient's age, symptom severity, fertility needs, and psychological acceptance.

If the doctor recommends hysterectomy, the patient needs to be mentally prepared in advance and fully communicate the surgical plan with the doctor. At the same time, after the operation, the patient should arrange regular checkups according to the doctor's advice, pay attention to the body's recovery, and seek psychological support when necessary.
