Causes of Bartholin's gland cyst

Causes of Bartholin's gland cyst

Bartholin's gland cysts are usually caused by fluid accumulation due to blockage of the gland duct and need to be diagnosed and treated by a professional doctor.

The Bartholin's glands are located in the female vulva area and are important glands responsible for secreting lubricating fluid. If the gland's duct is blocked, such as due to infection, inflammation, or accumulation of secretions, the fluid may not be able to drain and gradually form a cyst. Although this is not uncommon in women, not all cysts cause significant discomfort.

When the cyst is small, many people may not notice it, but once the cyst grows, they may feel local swelling, tenderness, or even discomfort when walking or sitting. If the cyst becomes infected and develops into an abscess, symptoms may include redness, swelling, severe pain, and even fever. At this time, it is particularly important to seek medical help in time, because abscesses usually require drainage and other treatments.

In order to reduce the risk of Bartholin's gland cysts, it is recommended to pay attention to the daily cleaning of the vulva and avoid using irritating cleaning products at will; wear underwear with good ventilation to help reduce local moisture. If you find abnormal lumps or discomfort in the local area, do not squeeze it yourself, and go to the gynecology department for examination as soon as possible to determine whether further treatment is needed.
