How to treat acute Bartholinitis

Acute Bartholinitis usually requires medication, local care, and surgical drainage to relieve inflammation and resolve infection problems. Appropriate treatment methods are selected based on the severity of the condition. Timely medical attention can prevent the spread of inflammation or the formation of abscesses.

Acute Bartholinitis is mainly manifested by swelling and pain on one side of the vulva, sometimes accompanied by limited movement. If an abscess occurs, obvious nodules or fluctuations will be felt locally. Mild cases can often be treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium, cephalosporins or clindamycin, and the course of treatment is usually 7 to 10 days. If the inflamed area is accompanied by severe swelling or abscess formation, local hot compresses or sitz baths are required to promote the absorption of pus. If the abscess is large, it can be thoroughly treated by surgical drainage (such as abscess incision), and antibiotics can be used again after surgery according to the doctor's orders to prevent recurrence.

Daily care is essential for recovery. Keep the vulva clean and dry, wash it gently with warm water every day, and avoid wearing tight and non-breathable underwear to reduce friction and irritation. Avoid sexual intercourse during the recovery period to prevent worsening of infection. At the same time, you need to follow the doctor's advice and return to the doctor on time. If you have persistent fever, pain or swelling, you should see a doctor immediately to avoid other complications.
