What to do if you have adenomyosis and adenomyoma

What about adenomyosis and adenomyoma?

1. Understand adenomyosis and adenomyoma. They are caused by endometriosis, and the boundary between the lesion and the normal uterine tissue is unclear. The main symptom is dysmenorrhea, followed by increased menstrual flow, which can easily lead to anemia. If adenomyosis is severe, it can also lead to infertility, so be vigilant.

2. There is no special drug treatment for adenomyosis and adenomyoma. The most effective treatment is surgery. If the condition is not very serious, drug treatment can be chosen. If the drug is ineffective or there is long-term severe dysmenorrhea, surgery should be performed in time. Surgical treatment includes radical surgery and conservative surgery. Treatment depends on the patient's age, fertility requirements and symptoms.

3. Patients with adenomyosis should also adjust their diet while receiving treatment, eat more light food, eat more fruits and vegetables, and avoid irritating food and drinks. Some foods that are hot, coagulating, and contain hormones should also be avoided, such as longan, red dates, donkey-hide gelatin, royal jelly, etc.

4. Selective uterine artery embolization can also be used as one of the treatment options for adenomyosis. Its mechanism of action includes: necrosis of ectopic endometrium, reduced secretion of prostaglandins, relief of dysmenorrhea, reduction of menstrual volume, and reduction of recurrence rate; establishment of collateral circulation of endometrium in situ, which can gradually migrate and grow from the basal layer to restore function. However, uterine artery embolization will affect the blood supply to the uterus and ovaries, thus having an adverse effect on pregnancy. It may cause infertility, miscarriage, premature birth and increase the rate of cesarean section.

5. The recurrence rate of adenomyosis is high, but it can be cured after hysterectomy and menopause. The malignant change rate of endometriosis in adenomyosis is reported to be 1.5% in China and 0.7% to 1.0% abroad. In comparison, the malignant change of adenomyosis is rarer.
