What are the reasons for delayed menstruation?

Delayed menstruation may be caused by normal phenomena, mental stress, hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome, hyperprolactinemia, etc.

1. Normal phenomenon:

Menstruation is mainly formed by the periodic shedding and bleeding of the endometrium. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days. However, since menstruation is easily affected by environmental and emotional factors, it is normal to be a few days earlier or 7 days later. It is normal for menstruation to be delayed by less than 7 days per month and no treatment is required.

2. Mental stress:

If the mental stress is relatively high, it will cause endocrine disorders, thus affecting the arrival of menstruation, and menstruation may be delayed every month. This situation can be improved by relieving stress and diverting attention.

3. Hypothyroidism

If the patient suffers from hypothyroidism, the metabolic capacity will also be reduced, so the menstruation will be delayed every month. In this case, the patient needs to take Yikang Capsules, Levothyroxine Sodium Tablets, Thyroid Tablets and other drugs under the guidance of a doctor to improve.

4. Polycystic ovary syndrome:

Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome have higher androgen levels but lower estrogen levels. Their menstruation will be affected by hormones in the body, leading to delayed menstruation every month. In this case, patients need to use drugs such as dydrogesterone tablets, compound cyproterone acetate tablets, and spironolactone tablets under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Hyperprolactinemia:

It is mainly caused by pituitary diseases and emotional tension. If the level of prolactin in the body is high, it will inhibit ovarian function, affect the menstrual cycle, and cause menstruation to be delayed every month. In this case, the patient needs to take drugs such as bromocriptine mesylate tablets, vitamin B6 tablets, and progesterone soft capsules.

Due to different causes, the treatment methods are also different. No matter what the cause is, active treatment is required to avoid delaying the best treatment time.
